Title: Discussion of the lesson 2's 5 visual displays

For lesson 2, we needed to discuss which one of the five visual displys was the best one. 5 visual displys about the giant squid were similar the same. The displays included the words, the pictures and other informations were not the same. After discussion with the members of the group, we thought the fourth one was the better one. Although this display gave us less information about this squid. It still told us the size, the eye and the other parts of this squid. It showed us how it could capture the prey. How did it eat by using it's mouth. The main reason why we chose the 4th display was the background of it. The colour was not so dark. The eye of it scared us.

Title: The information and opinion about the lesson 2

For lesson 2, I saw the power points about the introduction of our classmates. These power points showed me how useful and powerful of one power point. They were so colourful with the musical background. It showed me how to use the powerpoint in differnt ways.

The visual displays presented data, information, reality, ideas, emotions, knowledge, symbols and other forms of information. The first impression influenced us for a very long time. It became part of our knowledge and opinion. Before we had the different languages. The pictures crafted on the stones expression the people's expressions and information. It might have the symbols and icons. Even I did not that language, by looking at the pictures, I might get some ideas and information. So the visual displays were more powerful than the words. If the displays were very complicated or not display in an efficient format or order, it might arouse the confusion.

For the same visual display, different people may receive different ideas or information. It may depend on the culture, education levels and many other things. So I need to study the materials about this topic. The sitution in lesson 2 showed these points. Different groups got different ideas.

Title: About Task 2

Before we started our task 2, we read about what was the question. The topic of the task was about the space and the earth. We read the essay carefully and look for the materials about this topic by finding the related websites, books and other usefully materials. Then we decided what kind of format or media to present it. The most important thing is the layout of the power point. We chose the simple words to explain the topic in our single screen.

About Lesson 3, we learnt by discussing the visual displays that have done by our classmates. Each group presented the similar information that given by the same essay. The visual displays showed different ideas. It meant that we might get different concepts about the same essay. It was quite interesting. By looking at the same visual display, we got different idea or information. The differences may be based on different aspects.

Title: The size of a raindrop

By reading the website of islandnet .com., the discussions about raindrops were still common in the weather literature or introductory meteorology texts. In this website stated that the two persons, German Philipp Lenard and American Wilson A. Bentley published their results about the raindrop size and shape in 1898. They did not know each other. They used their own methods to carry out the investigations.

From the points of view of the meteorologists, both methods were not good enough. Philipp Lenard collected ten field samples and did not relate raindrop size distribution to weather condition. Bentley kept detailed records of the weather conditions under which he carried out the tests. In several years’ time, Bentley collected a total of 344 separate size distributions sampled from 70 individual storms including 25 thunderstorms. In order to understand the distributed of various sizes of raindrops, he divided the raindrop fossils from the 344 collections into 5 size categories: very small, small, medium, large and very large. Bentley collected raindrops in a pan of wheat flour. He reported the results in Monthly Weather Review in October 1904. He concluded that the sizes of the raindrops from these categories were nearly the same. The smaller drops outnumbered larger ones. Low clouds produced few large drops. He found the maximum raindrop size to be around 6 to 8 mm in diameter.
Lenard got the similar result that the raindrops that larger than 6 mm would break apart.

In 1943, researchers from the US Soil Conservation Service used the flour pellet technique to measure raindrop size as a function of rainfall intensity. Canadian scientists Marshall and Palmer found the relationship between raindrop size distribution and rain intensity was similar to the result of the experiment of US Soil Conservation Service. They used the advance technology liked radar as a tool to observe precipitation.

Rain would not fall without some degree of impurity in the air to act as a seed.
Raindrops fell as they combined with other particles from the air as they passed through. Acid rain was the good example.

Today, with the help of radar and the advance technology, the information on the time variability of drop size distributions as seen by a disdrometer was used to estimate the size of raindrops and it's location. How to generate the space-time variability of the distributions of the size of raindrops was developed.

Hi Laikin,

I think you must pu your posts in the first page of your blog. You log in into your system and add new post rather than adding comments here.

About the last assignment of this course, Candy and I discussed about it for a few times. Finally, we decide to design a lesson plan about the topic of Physics. For the junior class, most of the topics involed the motion of something. If we used the Flash MX to describe the action involved, the students would understand the topic better.

After discussion with my partner, Lidia, we are going to prepare a physics lesson about "Newton's first law of motion" to junior form secondary students in order to arouse their interest in learning the topic of "motion" which is close related to our daily life:

- A stationary object continues to be stationary unless a resultant force acts on it.

- A uniformly moving object continues to move uniformly unless a resultant force acts on it.

Hi, Ronda,

Your design about the raindrop was simple. The background was coloured in pink. I looked like the cloud with raindrops moved in curved shaped. The explanation was also very simple. It showed you had made an effect by using Flash to display your information.

We make use of this Saturday to improve the Flash design of "Raindrop", we hope it is much better and now we have more confidence in using Flash.

The "Play (red square)" and "Stop (green triangle)" buttons are useful. The different shape and size of raindrops are described.

We look forward to receiving more comments about our improved flash "Raindrop". Thank you for your comments!

During the lesson on 27th March, 2007, I had an opportunity to look at the example of an interactive map of Hong Kong develop with Flash. I get some fresh ideas about the interactive map and want to prepare another topic "Cambodia " which was visited during 2006 Christmas.

I am going to introduce the capital of Cambodia "Phnom Penh" and the life of orphans with my partner, Lidia, in order to encourage students to show concern for the needy of the world. Sharing resources, sharing love and sharing lives can make a difference for a needy world ~ Life Education.

Discussion with my group member, Lidia Ho:

Do you think is it good to change our final assignment from Physics to Life Education.

Digital photos will be used to introduce "Cambodia" and "the poor children in Cambodia".

Design interactive material with flash to remind students to share resources and love to the needy people of the world.

More about the improved FLASH "raindrop":

Group members: Lidia Ho and Candy Yiu

- We use the water cycle picture as the raindrop's background and its colour is light.

- We use four pictures to introduce the water cycle process. So when the mouse is near different picture, it will show you different numbers, e.g. 1, 2, 3, 4. Then you will know the first process is "Evaporation", and the second process is "Condensation"...

- We use the flash to introduce the size and shape of raindrop from 1mm to 8mm. We also mentioned that the size of raindrop will be affected by air pressure.

Thank you for your (visitors') comments.

Title: About the Project

Our group, Candy and I plan to explain the project by one slide of PowerPoint. We compared the life of the children in two places. We hope our students will realize that how lucky they were. We try to use the IT skills we knew in this course. We plan to present the project on Tuesday. The photos are not copied from someone's work. We will make sure that it is our work. Our project will be improved by us before the end of the course.

Title: The group Assignment of Martin and Dorothy--Water Cycle

The design explained the various states of water cycle clearly. If both of you explain each stage by using Flash. The viewers may understand the processes in a better way. The students expected the visual dispays liked a motion picture. I knew it is not easy to creat it in this way.

Title: the work of Kenneth Chan

Kenneth presented his work in the last lesson. I was impressed by his work. The visual displays described the solar eclipse, lunar eclipse and the moon phase. From my opinion, he got the ability to improve it. I hope he may explain the stages in words. It is more easy to understand the two different eclipses. If it provides with sound, it will be prefect.

Title: Photo Story 3

My classmate, Emily showed me to use it. It was easy to handle. I planned to arrange my old photes and store them in the way I liked.

Title: The presentation of Kavitha and Andrew

About your project of global warming, it showed that both of you had made a lot of effort in doing it. You told us that you will try to improve it. I would like to mention a few points. It was difficult to measure how much CO2 emitted from a car. It involved many factors. Although there were many articles mentioned about the relationship of global warming and sea level rise, how could they proved it was the only factor. The global warming affects many things. The Newsweek and Time magazines mentioned this topic.

Title: Alan's Mathematics Problem

Your proposed assignment was about a topic of F.3 Mathematics. Will you use the Flash or/and other IT skills in presenting it? I suggested you need to adjust the size of the angle of elevation in calculating the related items. The student may have a better idea about this topic.

Title: Kenny's trip in Egypt

Kenny explained his work step by step clearly. He followed the instruction of the requirement. It was nice to know how he started his project. He told us he will improve it later. I think I will be delighted to enjoy the film.
